Description

The Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee (EJCDC®) is a coalition of stakeholders in the project delivery process who develop and endorse quality contract documents. EJCDC® is a joint venture of three major organizations of professional engineers including: The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

The EJCDC General Counsel's primary duties are to:

  • Deliver subject matter expertise on construction law and contracts for EJCDC, including project delivery methods, procurement selection, IPD and lean practices.
  • Produce final, publishable document from draft-editorial experience is necessary.
  • Provide legal advice and counsel, legal research, legal briefings, and document development tasks as requested by EJCDC
  • Work with the sponsoring organizations, committee, and subcommittees to develop new and revised EJCDC contract documents.
  • Lead additional EJCDC outreach efforts by promoting EJCDC initiatives through amicus curiae briefs, comment letters, in-person presentations, convening of coalitions of like-minded organizations and other similar activities.


Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) required, licensed to practice in at least one state.
  • Understanding of the unique nature of in engineering and construction practice and issues confronting the global business community.
  • Familiarity with A Matrix of Selected Clauses in Three Standard Form Contracts
  • Demonstrated writing expertise: Ability to write clearly and persuasively.  Samples of articles, amicus briefs, comments, or other legal documents will be requested.
  • Incumbent is expected to perform by assuming significant responsibility, having a strong sense of initiative, working with a high degree of independence, and making important and well thought out decisions and successfully directing significant courses of action on behalf of EJCDC with minimal supervision.  Incumbent must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to get along with diverse constituencies and personalities, including the volunteers, staff, and contacts at external organizations.
  • Ability to travel to meetings 3 times annually
  • Minimum of 7- 10 years of experience
