Our law firm is currently seeking a qualified full-time Paralegal to support our personal injury department located in the East Metro.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
- 2+ years of litigation experience specializing in plaintiff’s personal injury.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion with confidential and sensitive information.
- Reliable, versatile, good team member and independent worker.
- Detailed orientated with strong organizational skills.
- Exceptional problem solving and multi-tasking skills, able to efficiently prioritize a broad range of responsibilities, manage multiple workloads and consistently meet deadlines.
- Ability to draft pleadings and discovery in all phases of litigation.
- Understands medical records and medical billing statements.
- Ability to maintain accurate and organized electronic and physical case files for easy retrieval of information and collaboration with the team.
- Knowledge of law, legal procedures, protocols, and State and Federal court systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, Acrobat/Adobe Pro and DocuSign.
The ideal candidate will have the following preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of legal software applications for document management and case tracking purposes, including Microsoft 365 applications, Adobe Pro, DocuSign and case management systems.
- Knowledge of gathering medical records and billing statement from healthcare providers directly and through portals such as Ciox and MRO.
- Knowledge of trial and hearing preparation including organizing exhibits, communicating with witnesses and preparing trial binders.
- Knowledge of Minnesota No-fault insurance and arbitration process.
- Knowledge of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Federal court rules and procedures ensuring compliance when filing and serving documents or scheduling hearings.
Primary Responsibilities:
- The ideal candidate will have the following primary responsibilities:
- Customer Service Skills: Ability to provide courteous, effective & timely service for clients, opposing counsel, court personnel to facilitate smooth communication flow throughout the case.
- File Organization: Open and maintain physical and electronic files; pleading, discovery and document logs; process expenses and other administrative functions.
- Prioritize multiple projects and heavy volume sufficient to manage progress on each case and meet applicable deadlines.
- Prepared and proofread correspondence such as letters or emails to clients, opposing counsel, insurance companies, medical providers, court personnel, and other parties involved in the case.
- Legal Documents: Prepare and proofread legal documents so they are formatted in accordance with court rules; and that they are well written by applying knowledge of standard legal formats, legal terminology, citations, English, grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Calendars: Maintain calendars, schedule meetings, arrange meeting locations and make all necessary arrangements including court reporter and setting up technology.
- Deadlines: Maintain and calendar all court and office deadlines.
- Medical records and bills: Request, receive, review and index medical records and medical billings statements.
- Typing/Keyboarding: Sufficient to perform skilled typing tasks with speed and accuracy.
- Word Processing: Ability to use word processing software sufficient to type, format, edit and finalize legal documents and other written materials ensuring that they are properly formatted, grammatically correct and error-free.
- Database Management: Ability to use or readily learn to use case management software to maintain file electronically.
- Legal Terminology: Knowledge of legal terminology sufficient to perform the job duties effectively.
- Typing/Keyboarding: Sufficient to perform skilled typing tasks with speed and accuracy.
- Physical Requirements Requires occasionally moving such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or moving light objects frequently.
