Description
West Mermis, PLLC is looking to hire a litigation associate with 2 to 7 years of experience for a full-time position. Located in downtown Houston, West Mermis represents clients throughout Texas. West Mermis is a full-service construction law firm that also provides commercial litigation services to its clients. This is an excellent opportunity for an associate desiring substantial client interaction, significant responsibility, and a team-oriented approach.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal support to clients and assist attorneys
- Develop and maintain client relationships
- Prepare status reports and mediation memorandums
- Draft initial pleadings
- Perform legal research
- Draft and respond to written discovery
- Interact with clients to gather information necessary to respond to discovery requests
- Draft and respond to motions to dismiss, discovery motions, motions for summary judgment and other dispositive and non-dispositive motions
- Prepare draft witness deposition outlines and otherwise assisting lead lawyers in preparing for depositions
- Prepare drafts of witness lists, exhibit lists, motions in limine, jury charges, and other pretrial submissions
- Draft trial and post-trial briefs and motions
- Draft final arbitration hearing and post-hearing briefs and motions
- Participate in large-scale document review projects as part of pre-suit or internal investigations, discovery in pending matters, or responding to government requests

Qualifications
- 2 – 7 years of experience working as an attorney, construction experience a plus but not required
- Excellent academic credentials
- Strong writing and analytical skills
- Strong legal knowledge
- Effective interpersonal communication
- Ability to work as part of a team in a growing and thriving litigation group
